こんばんは！ It’s been a hot summer so far, and I won’t lie, I’m not a big fan of the heat! Here’s what we’ve been up to this month:
On July 1st we went to Takasaki for Canada Day. While at the train station, we found a fantastic gachapon machine that spit out this cute lil guys!
To beat the heat, we had some delicious kakigori! Below is strawberry and…coffee, I think?… We also had orange, green apple, and yuzu flavours!
It’s also been a lot rainier this month! (Though it’s not been much cooler than usual, unfortunately.)
We had a Board of Education work party! Great food and all-you-can-drink for two hours:
In Japanese grocery stores, the shelves right next to the checkout counters are all cheap stuff for sale, like tea and drinks. (In America it’s all candy and magazines.) This caught my eye – “goma miruku,” or “sesame milk.” I love sesame, so I thought I’d give it a try…unfortunately, I also love to eat my salads with sesame dressing, and this tasted like drinking watered-down dressing. Couldn’t finish it!
Last year, when I biked out to 8th school, I could take a scenic route through the rice fields; now, my bike ride is a little more suburban. Luckily, there are few beautiful rice fields outside 5th school, so I get to see those twice a week!
Also, there’s nothing like biking past a stand of bamboo in the summer – it’s a cool breath of air!
And finally, the cats have been cute as ever. Olive will not sleep on the bed unless there is something for her to lie on, whether it is an iPhone or a bag:
And Aster has been helping us pack for our trip back home on Tuesday! Thanks to her, we will easily be able to pick out our suitcase from all the others, because it is covered in white cat hair.
And that’s been what’s up this month! The next time I write, I will be in the States. Woooo! See you soon! またね！
