It was a busy week for the teachers at school, but as an ALT, I had three whole days with no classes! Instead, I got to enjoy the goodbye assemblies the schools put on for their sixth graders.
On Wednesday at 8sho there was singing and dancing galore! The first graders put on an adorable skit where they dressed up as grandmas, grandpas, cats, dogs, and mice. The fourth graders surrounded the sixth graders and danced. And the fifth graders did the solanbushi, a pretty epic dance that the sixth graders do every year at the sports festival.
Then the teachers went up to sing a song…and they made me go up, too, even though I had no idea what was happening. They tried to put me in the front…luckily I held my ground and stood at the very back and just hummed along.
I was able to do the “Woo~” part really well!
Each grade made lovely little cards thanking the 6th graders.
On Friday 1sho had their assembly. Less dancing, more singing and skits. The 6th graders did the solanbushi for the school. 1sho definitely has the most elaborate performance I’ve seen at any of the schools I’ve attended!
The PTA did a skit for the 6th graders, too. They did the PPAP dance…
I hear this song every. Single. Day. I’m so tired of it. So tired. But the kids love it.
Again, each grade made cards thanking the 6th graders. My favourite were these cute bug cards!
Other than the assemblies, this week was fairly low-key!
I found mochi Häagen-Dazs ice cream…
We had a special school lunch for Hinamatsuri that included a sakura mochi dessert…
Aster was cute and snuggled with me while I slept…
And my mom sent me pink yarn with the request for a pussy hat, so I made one!
It’s very, very pink.
And that’s been my week! Not too much exciting planned for the next couple weeks. I’m nervous, because the school year is drawing to a close. We’ve only got two more weeks of school, then a week without the kids, and then the school year starts up again the first week of April. I’ll find out in the next few weeks whether I’ll be staying at my current schools or (eep!) moving to new ones!
Until next time! またね！
