こんばんは！ This week was uneventful, but fun!
At 1sho they had an assembly showing the kids how to use a fire extinguisher:
We walked past the fire truck on our way back into the schools. They’re pretty small compared to American fire trucks! The logo on the truck has a tanuki – a big-balled raccoon dog, basically. There are some wild old prints of tanuki…
(Tatebayashi’s mascot is Pon-chan, a tanuki that pretended to be a teapot but got put on a stove and ran away half-transformed. The story’s called bunbuku chagama!)
Friday I hit up the local crepe stand with Katie on the way home from school! I took back roads to get there and wound up going down a lovely street that has a couple samurai houses you can visit during the day. (I haven’t been in to see them yet, and I’m pretty sure they’re samurai houses? That’s what we’ve been told!)
The first picture is just a neat little back street I hadn’t been through before, the second is the walls of the samurai house, and the third is…something that looks interesting!
I love the pine trees around here. A lot of houses with yards have them, and they’re usually propped up.
I had a strawberry, kiwi, whipped cream, and cream cheese crepe!
This weekend I made two attempts at making mochi, one with my friend Katie and one on my own. I’ve been wanting to try a “Washoku Wednesday” kind of thing (washoku is the word for traditional Japanese cuisine), so on Wednesday I’ll be posting about that!
I’ll just say here, I had a lovely weekend experimenting in the kitchen with a spoon in one hand and a bottle of Angry Orchard in the other!
Until next time! またね！
