Small update today! Today Typhoon Mindulle hit Japan. Lots of flooding in Tokyo, trains and flights cancelled, etc. Here in Tatebayashi we had some crazy heavy rain and winds. I was let out early from school at lunch since I don’t have a car, and several of my wonderful teacher-friends helped me load my bike into the back of someone’s van and gave me a lift home! (I go to two different schools during the week, so I couldn’t leave my bike at school unless I wanted to take a 40-minute walk at 7 in the morning next day to retrieve it. No thanks!)
So I went home, made some tea, played with my cat Olive, and did some knitting while Paul napped.
Olive is my constant companion whenever I cook. Sometimes, if I’m not using up a lot of space, she’ll sit in the corner of the table and watch me. Most times I’ll move her to the chair and she’ll just sit and stare the entire time I cook. (Obviously I can’t turn my back on her for more than a minute, because next time I look, she’ll be reaching out to poke the food!)
Every fall Tatebayashi has an International Festival, and the Board of Education sets up a booth where the ALTs can sell things. I love knitting, so I’ve been working on scarves and cowls and whatnot for that; but I have a short attention span, so I’ve been working on several different projects at once. I’ve even started some squares for a blanket!
